Is this a reiterate of the Dark Ages?

I would like to draw your attention to an incident that has left the people of Pakistan, Syria and Egypt in horror. It all began almost a month ago when MV Suez, a Panamanian registered ship belonging to the Red Sea Navigation Company was sailing in the international waters off the Gulf of Eden.

Disaster struck in the early hours of August 02, 2010 when Somali Pirates hijacked the bulk carrier MV Suez - Egyptian-owned; Panama-flagged; 17,300 DWT and with a crew of 23 while transiting the Internationally Recognized Transit Corridor (IRTC) with a cargo of cement bags.

PAKISTANI's including my relative Captain Syed Wasi Hassan and Muhammad Muzamil, Syed Alam, Ali Rehman are onboard MV SUEZ and the whereabouts of the ship to date are not known. A naval helicopter was launched immediately after the alarm but upon arrival on the scene, found the pirates to be already on board.

According to a statement by Mohamed Abdel-Meguid, commercial director of the Red Sea Navigation Company said the owners were ready to pay a reasonable ransom. It has been said that the Somali Pirates demanded a ransom worth 6 Million which has now gone down to 2.5 Million Dollars.

I’m completely aware of the conditions in my country right now but how can one ignore so many lives lost in the middle of nowhere.

Has our Government turned deaf to such a tragedy? Can we do nothing to save our brothers? The families here in Pakistan are trying very hard to approach the government for assistance but in vain. Children await their father’s arrivals, mothers mourn in pain, wives praying for their husbands and the authorities seem to appear blind to all the sufferings.

Can we do nothing to save these lives?

It has been reported, "Unfortunately, channels of communication with the Somali hijackers have been cut," says Abdel-Meguid. This is a tactic the pirates often use to exert pressure on the owners of ships to accept their conditions."

Does this mean we sit around and do nothing?

Innocent lives onboard may be fighting to live this very minute and we sit here to wait for communications to go up again. Is this how the world deals with international issues? Why are not the World Leaders taking the necessary steps? Is this how we treat people who have no one to reach out to?

Sadly, there is another dark side to this picture. Tarek Saleh, the brother of one of the kidnapped crew, told Al-Ahram Weekly that the company had refused to mediate with the pirates. "The owners refused to take any action, saying it is up to the government to negotiate with the pirates.”.

Authorities at the Red Sea Navigation Company have supposedly be involved n making efforts to the supply the captured ship with food and medicine. Can anyone guarantee the safety of those 22 men onboard the ship?

What about the 22 families praying for loved ones with no one to reach out for help?

Hossam Zaki, official spokesman of the Foreign Ministry, says the Egyptian government is consulting with its envoys in Somalia on how to secure the safety of the ship and its crew.

It is up to us to take a stand; we cannot let innocent lives be taken just because the world’s leaders fail to pay heed to us. We have to make sure, that everyone onboard that ship returns to their homeland safe n sound.

This is my initiative towards making a difference, I request you to come forward and join this effort and let’s ‘bring our heroes back home’…!

Cryus says "Attitude is everything"

Cyrus was the kind of guy you love to hate. He was always in a good mood and always had something positive to say. When someone asked him how he was doing, he would reply, "If I were any better, I would be twins!"

Cyrus was a natural motivator. If an employee was having a bad day, Cyrus was there telling the employee how to look on the positive side of the situation.

Seeing this style really made me curious, so one day I went up to Cyrus and asked him, "I don't get it! You can't be a positive person all of the time. How do you do it?"

Cyrus replied, "Each morning I wake up and say to myself, Cyrus, you have two choices today. You can choose to be in a good mood or you can choose to be in a bad mood.' I choose to be in a good mood. Each time something bad happens, I can choose to be a victim or I can choose to learn from it. I choose to learn from it. Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose to accept their complaining or I can point out the positive side of life. I choose the positive side of life."

"Yeah, right, it's not that easy," I protested.

"Yes it is," Cyrus said. "Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junk, every situation is a choice. You choose how you react to situations. You choose how people will affect your mood. You choose to be in a good or bad mood. The bottom line : It's your choice how you live life."

I reflected on what Cyrus said. Soon thereafter, I left the restaurant industry to start my own business.

We lost touch, but I often thought about him when I made a choice about life instead of reacting to it.

Several years later, I heard that Cyrus did something you are never supposed to do in a restaurant business: he left the back door open one morning and was held up at gunpoint by three armed robbers. While trying to open the safe, his hand, shaking from nervousness, slipped off the combination.

The robbers panicked and shot him.

Luckily, Cyrus was found relatively quickly and rushed to the local trauma center.

After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive care, Cyrus was released from the hospital with fragments of the bullets still in his body.

I saw Cyrus about six months after the accident. When I asked him how he was, he replied, "If I were any better, I'd be twins. Wanna see my scars?"

I declined to see his wounds, but did ask him what had gone through his mind as the robbery took place.

"The first thing that went through my mind was that I should have locked the back door," Cyrus replied. "Then, as I lay on the floor, I remembered that I had two choices: I could choose to live, or I could choose to die. I chose to live."

"Weren't you scared? Did you lose consciousness?" I asked.

Cyrus continued, "The paramedics were great. They kept telling me I was going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into the emergency room and I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I read, 'He's a dead man.' I knew I needed to take action."

"What did you do?" I asked.

"Well, there was a big, burly nurse shouting questions at me," said Cyrus. "She asked if I was allergic to anything. 'Yes,' I replied. The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply. I took a deep breath and yelled, 'Bullets!' Over their laughter, I told them, 'I am choosing to live. Operate on me as if I am alive, not dead."

Cyrus lived thanks to the skill of his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude. I learned from him that every day we have the choice to live fully.

Attitude, after all, is everything.

Can Social Media be transparently audited?

Web -based technologies, along with providing consumers and businesses with new means of interacting with the world, has also empowered them to control things on internet media according to their idiosyncratic reasoning and thoughts. For businesses, while making of plans and developing marketing strategies, consideration of “Online Activism” has become indispensable. Such activism has got a support of a variety of internet-based media which have emerged in recent years. Among all such online channels, Social Media has appeared as the commanding one.

It is an acknowledged belief to check for soundness and trustworthiness of any entity bestowed upon with power. With majority of human race’s conviction on this view, Social Media should not be given an exemption. - Whatever service, falling under the umbrella of Social Media is offered by any website should have a support of internally controlled audit systems.

- The population of social marketers is growing at an increasing rate. Online training campaigns and workshops should be started on by social media networkers in order to educate, new entrants in the world of social media, about making an effective use of this media.

DURING THESE SEVEN DAYS YOU MUST DRINK TEN GLASSES OF WATER EACH DAY.

DAY ONE:

All fruits except bananas: your first day will consist of all fruits u want. It is suggested u consume lots of melons the first day, especially water melons.

DAY TWO:

All vegetables: You r encouraged to eat until u r stuffed with all the raw and cooked vegetables of ur choice. There is no limit of the amount or type. Avoid Oil and Coconut while cooking vegetables. Have a large boiled potato for breakfast.

DAY THREE:

Any mixture of fruits and vegetables of ur choice: Any amount, any quantity, No bananas and no potatoes today.

DAY FOUR:

Bananas and milk: today u will eat as many as eight bananas and drink three glasses of milk. You can also have one bowl of vegetable soup.

DAY FIVE:

Today is a feast day: you will eat 1 cup of rice. You also have to eat six whole tomatoes. Drink 13 glasses of water today to cleanse your system of the excess uric acid you will be producing.

DAY SIX:

Today is another all Vegetables day. You may eat 1 cup of rice today. Eat all vegetables you want cooked and uncooked to your hearts content,

DAY SEVEN:

Today your food intake will consist of 1 cup of rice, fruit juices and all the vegetables u care to consume.

Tomorrow morning u will be five to eight Kgs lighter than 1 week ago. If u desire further weight loss, repeat the program again. Repeat this program as often as u like. However it is suggested that rest for three days before every repetition.

You have your system under control now and it will thank you for all the purging and cleansing u just gave it. Even more that a diet programs it is good to follow this diet once in a while to clean ur digestive system and remove toxic substances that have accumulated in the system.

The most important element of this program is 10 tall glasses of water a day. You can also flavor the water with some lemon to make the drinking easier.

Most of the internet users nowadays have become addicted to Social Networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Digg. Even I have at least 8 to 10 browsers tabs open at a time to check out the timeline for various sites as i mentioned above. At least Facebook , Twitter and Gmail is open all the time.
